Attendance

Only students with 80% of attendance will be eligible to appear for the examinations. Those who fall short of required attendance will be required to take the exam only in the subsequent semester after duly attending the classes once again.

 
Course Completion

Students will have to complete the course within the stipulated academic period of 2 years. An extension of 1 year shall be permitted only for theory papers on exceptional grounds. This does not apply for practical or internship

 
University Examination:

MBA- Semester, Paramedical- Non- Semester

Evaluation of Answer papers: Answer papers of the university examinations shall be subjected to evaluation by a board of examiners constituted by Alagappa University

 
Passing Minimum

The passing minimum in University examination is 50% in total

50% to be secured separately in externals.

 

Internal Exams:

Every subject carries 40 marks for Internals .

There is no minimum prescribed mark for pass in the internal assessment.

Retest of Internal exam will not be conducted for any reason.

 

MBA - A minimum pass of 50% is required separately in Project and Viva

Allied Courses - Pattern of Evaluation: Practical, Viva, Log book and Record book.

REGULATIONS OF THE UNIVERSITY (Degree courses under Allied Health Science)

In exercise of the powers conferred by Section 44 of the Tamil Nadu Dr.M.G.R.Medical University, Chennai Act 1987 (Tamil Nadu Act 37 of 1987) the Standing Academic Board of the Tamil Nadu Dr.M.G.R.Medical University, Chennai hereby makes the following regulations:-

Short Title And Commencement

These regulations shall be called as " B.Sc. DEGREE COURSES UNDER ALLIED HEALTH SCIENCES" of the Tamil Nadu Dr. MGR Medical University, Chennai.

They shall come into force from the academic year 2010-2011.

The regulations framed are subjected to modification from time to time by the Standing Academic Board.

Over All Objectives

The B.Sc. DEGREE COURSES UNDER ALLIED HEALTH SCIENCES is prepared to assist the Doctors for providing Quality Patient Care in selected areas of Clinical Specialty in the Hospital and Community.

Eligibility Criteria:

Candidates belonging to all categories for admission to the  B.Sc. Degree Courses Under Allied Health Sciences should have passed the qualifying examinations after period of 12 years of study.

Every candidate before admission to the course shall submit to the     Principal of the institution a certificate of medical fitness from an authorized medical officer that the candidate is physically fit to undergo the academic course

The minimum educational requirements shall be passing of Higher Secondary School Certificate Examination (12 years course)
(or)

 

Senior School Certificate Examination (10+2), pre-degree examinations (10+2)
(or)

 

An equivalent with 12 years schooling from a recognized Board or University minimum 45% marks (PCBE); for SC/ST candidates the minimum percentage of marks is 35%.     

Age Limit for Admission

A candidate should have completed the age of 17 years at the time of admission or would complete the said age on or before 31st December of the year of admission to the B.Sc. Degree Courses under Allied Health Sciences.

Instructions to the Candidates to apply for issue of Eligibility Certificate for admission to I B.SC. DEGREE COURSES UNDER ALLIED HEALTH SCIENCES

Candidates who have passed any qualifying examination other than the Higher Secondary Course Examination conducted by the Government of Tamil Nadu shall obtain an Eligibility Certificate from the University.

Candidate has to submit duly filled in Eligibility Certificate Application Form downloaded from the Website of The Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University (www.tnmmu.ac.in & www.tnmgr.ac.in) either in person or by post.

Candidate has to remit a sum of Rs.1,200/- towards the cost of application and Eligibility Certificate Fee. The amount should be paid through online RTGS A/c No.666 I.O.B. or the I.O.B. Challan to be paid at the Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University premises. The date of payment should not be earlier than one month from the date of application.

The amount once remitted by the candidate to the University will not be refunded at any cost

Candidate has to furnish the following documents in original and one set of Xerox copies of

 

Statement of Marks of Higher Secondary School certificate Examination (+2 Course or Equivalent Examination)

Transfer Certificate

The University will issue the Eligibility Certificate from 1st June of every year.

The last ate for applying for the Eligibility certificate for I B.SC. DEGREE  COURSES UNDER ALLIED HEALTH SCIENCES is 30th September of every year. If 30th September falls on a holiday, the candidate has to apply for the eligibility certificate on the next working dayd

The candidates who have passed +2 qualification from the Central Board of Secondary Examination in the State of Tamil Nadu has to get the Eligibility Certificate.

The candidates who have passed Higher Secondary School Examination under vocational stream are also eligible to join I B.SC. DEGREE COURSES UNDER ALLIED HEALTH SCIENCES.

Institutions / Agents / Mediators are not allowed to apply for the eligibility certificate on behalf of the candidate.

Eligibility Certificate for Foreign Candidates:

Candidates who have passed Advanced Level Qualification and Central Board of Secondary Examination in Foreign Countries has to remit a sum of Rs.10,100/- towards the cost of application and Eligibility fee. The amount should be drawn in favour of the Registrar, The Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University payable at Chennai.

Candidates who have passed Advanced Level Qualification in foreign countries has to get Equivalency Certificate from the Association of Indian Universities, New Delhi - these Qualifications are EQUATED with 12 Year Senior School Certificate of Central Board of Secondary Education, Delhi /other Boards in India

The Foreign candidates seeking admission in self-financing colleges should apply before the cut-off date for admission to I B.SC. DEGREE COURSES UNDER ALLIED HEALTH SCIENCES through the Principal of the college only and have to strictly follow the following prescribed guidelines:

The Institutions admitting candidates from the Foreign countries should obtain the documents from the candidates in original along with the Photocopies of i) Passport ii) No Objection Certificate from the Embassies of the concerned foreign countries iii) +2 Statements of marks issued by the Education Department in the country of their origin

The candidate has to obtain an endorsement in the General Secondary School Certificate +2 Statement of marks from the both Embassies (i.e. Foreign and India).

 

After obtaining the original documents from the candidate, the Institution has to forward the ‘No Objection Certificate’ to the Embassies of the concerned foreign countries and get the genuineness certificate from their Embassies

 

Also the +2 Statement of marks has to be forwarded to the Education Department of the countries origin and get the genuineness of the documents duly certified

 

The Institution has to obtain and furnish a certificate from the Department of Police as to whether there is any criminal case pending against the candidate in the State of Tamil Nadu (or) any other State of India.

 

The institution should forward the genuineness of the certificates along with other original documents such as Passport, No Objection certificate from their Embassies, +2 Statements of marks along with the Police verification certificate and the required fee to this University, Also a copy to be marked to the SECRETARY, FOREIGIN AFFAIRS MINISTRY, GOVERNMENT OF INDIA, NEW DELHI.

 

The Institution must themselves apply and get the genuineness of the certificates from the concerned authorities and should not allow the candidate or his representative or any mediator to apply for genuineness of the Certificates.

 

The Institution has to give an undertaking to this effect that the institution only had applied to the concerned authorities and not the candidate.

 

If the genuineness of anyone of the certificate(s) of the candidate is found to be bogus action will be taken against the institution in the form of withdrawal of the Provisional affiliation granted to the institution for conducting the course.

 

The institution which admits those said candidates after following these procedures are SOLELY responsible for the proper conduct of the candidates till he/she passes out of their courses.

 

Any Crime committed by the candidates of those mentioned countries, the institution should take severe disciplinary action even amounting to the discharge of the candidate from the course to be done with the intimation to this University.

Candidates seeking admission under NRI quota in self-financing colleges have to strictly follow the following prescribed guidelines:

Candidate should be of Indian Origin settled in Foreign Countries.
(or)

 

Candidate who were born in foreign countries and whose parents are of Indian Origin.
(or)

 

Children of Indian Citizen stay abroad for employment, business.
(or)

 

Children of Indian citizens deputed abroad by Public Sector Undertaking
(or)

 

Children of the Official of the Central / State Government on deputation to abroad.

The candidate should have completed 17 years on or before 31st December of the year of admission.

The candidates seeking admission to NRI Quota should have held Indian Passport.

Candidates seeking admission to B.SC. DEGREE COURSES UNDER ALLIED HEALTH SCIENCES under NRI Quota should have passed H.Sc., Examination (10+2 pattern / equivalent)

The candidate should have obtained the minimum of 50% marks in Biology or Botany and Zoology taken together and the minimum of 50% marks each in Physics and Chemistry.

The medium of instruction should be in English.

Admission under Non-Resident of India scheme may be made on the basis of the marks obtained in the qualifying examination as prescribed in clause 4 & 5 above.

The duration of the course will be 3 academic years for B.SC. DEGREE COURSES UNDER ALLIED HEALTH SCIENCES

The seats under NRI quota should be utilized by the bonafide NRI’s only and for their children or wards. Therefore, the NRI financially supporting the candidates should either be the parent (Father or Mother) of the candidate or legally declared as guardian of the candidate by the Court as per provisions in ‘The Guardians and Wards Act 1890.

Candidates admitted under ‘NRI’ quota should submit the following documents:

 

NRI status of the financial supporter issued by the Indian Embassy of the respective country under their seal.

Certificate of relationship between the NRI financial supporter and the candidate issued by the competent authority, valid Indian Passport of the NRI financial supporter.

NRE (Non Resident External) Bank Account Pass Book of the financial supporter.

Evidence for payment of Development charges US $ 1000/- to the college by the NRI financial supporter (One time payment at the time of admission only)

The candidates should furnish equivalent marks for the grades awarded at the qualifying examination. If not, the minimum marks will be taken into consideration

No NRI sponsored candidates are allowed under NRI Scheme

A sworn in affidavit on Rs.20/- Non-Judicial Stamp Paper signed by the candidate stating that he / she will not have any right to approach the court of law in case he / she was confirmed as a fraudulent student with bogus certificate, etc.,

Registration

A Candidate admitted in any one of the B.Sc. DEGREE COURSES UNDER ALLIED HEALTH SCIENCES in any one of the affiliated institutions of this University shall register his / her name with this university by submitting the prescribed application form for registration duly filled, along with the prescribed fee and a declaration in the format to the Academic Officer of this University through the affiliated institution within 30 days from the cut-off date prescribed for the course for admission. The applications should have date of admission of the course.

Migration/Transfer Of Candidate

A student studying in any one of the B.Sc. DEGREE COURSES UNDER ALLIED HEALTH SCIENCES can be allowed to migrate/transfer to another institution of Allied Health Science under the same or another University.

Under extraordinary circumstances, the Vice Chancellor shall have the powers to place any migration/transfer he/she deems fit before the Governing Council and get its approval for grant of permission/ratification for Migration/Transfer to the candidates undergoing the course of study in affiliated institutions of this University

Commencement Of The Course

The course commences from 11th July of the academic year.

Medium Of Instruction

English shall be the Medium of Instruction for all the Subjects of study and for examinations of the B.Sc. DEGREE COURSES UNDER ALLIED HEALTH SCIENCES

Duration Of The Course

The duration of certified study for the B.Sc. DEGREE COURSES UNDER ALLIED HEALTH SCIENCES shall extend over a period of three academic years.

The candidate should complete this course in 6 years (double the duration) from the date of joining the course.

Re-Admission After Break Of Study

The regulations for re-admission are as per the University Common Regulation for Re-admission after break of study for all courses.

Working Days In The Academic Year

Each academic year shall consist of not less than 270 working days

Attendance Required For Admission To Examination

No candidate shall be permitted to appear in any one of the parts of B.Sc. DEGREE COURSES UNDER ALLIED HEALTH SCIENCES Examinations unless he/she has attended the course in the subject for the prescribed period in an affiliated institution recognized by this University and produce the necessary certificate of study, attendance and satisfactory conduct from the Head of the institution.

A candidate is required to put in a minimum of 90% of attendance out of 270 working days in both theory and practical separately in each subject before admission to the examinations except for 1 st year candidates where attendance will be counted from the date of joining. The academic year should consist of not less than 270 working days.

A candidate must have 100% attendance in each of the Practical/ Clinical areas before the award of Degree.

Condonation Of Lack Of Attendance

There shall be no condonation of lack of attendance.

There is no vacation

Internal Assessment Marks

The Internal Assessment should consist of the following points for evaluation

Theory

Practical / Clinical

Viva

 

A minimum of two written examinations shall be conducted in each subject during a year and the average marks of the three performances shall be taken into consideration for the award of Internal Assessment marks

A minimum of one practical examination shall be conducted in each subject (wherever practical has been included in the curriculum) and grades of ongoing clinical evaluation to be considered for the award of Internal Assessment marks

Cut-Off Dates For Admission To Examinations

30th September of the academic year concerned

The candidates admitted up to 30th September of the academic year shall be registered to take up the 1st year examination during August of the next year.

All kinds of admission shall be completed on or before 30th September of the academic year. There shall not be any admission after 30th September even if seats are vacant.

Commencement Of The Examinations

15 th August / 15 th February. If the date of commencement of examination falls on Saturdays / Sundays or declared Public Holidays, the examination shall begin on the next working day. The University paper will be awarded for 100 marks and Internal 50 marks.

Marks Qualifying For Pass

50% of marks in the University Theory Examinations
50% of marks in the University Practical Examinations
50% of marks in the subject where internal evaluation alone is conducted
50% of marks in aggregate in Theory, Practical I.A. & Oral taken together

Classification Of Successful Candidate
A successful candidate

Who secures not less than 75% in any subjects gets distinction in that particular subject provided she/he passes the whole examinations in the first attempt

Who passes the examinations in all subjects at the first appearance obtaining not less than 60% of the aggregate marks shall be declared to have passed the examinations in the first class

All the other successful candidate shall be declared to have passed the examination in the second class

A candidate passing a University examination in more than one attempt will be given “Pass Class” irrespective of percentage of marks secured by the candidate in the examinations

Carry Over Of Failed Subjects

A candidate has to pass in theory and practical examinations separately in each of the paper

If a candidate fails in either theory or practical examinations, he/she has to reappear for both (theory and practical)

Only three attempts are allowed in each subject including 1 st attempt

The candidate has to successfully the course in double the duration of the course (i.e. 6 years from the date of joining)

Practical Examination

Maximum number of candidates for practical examination should not exceed 20 per day

An examiner should be a lecturer or above in any of the affiliated institutions of Allied Health Sciences

Number Of Examiners

One internal and one external examiner should jointly conduct practical/ oral examination for each student

Revaluation/Retotalling Of Answer Papers

Revaluation of answer papers is not permitted. Only retotalling of theory answer papers is allowed, in the failed subjects
